Benny, to whom I’m deeply indebted, is indubitably an incredible teacher. Without him, I wouldn’t be able to rid myself of my vices (my propensity towards ‘ostentatious’ English); without him, I wouldn't be able to learn what natural, adequate and practical English truly is; and definitely, without him, I wouldn’t have achieved what I did today.

I find Benny's lessons extremely intriguing and inspiring. Different from a lot of mainstream tutors, Benny offers a whole different way of learning English. Through interactions within the class and regular practices, the English language becomes fun and no longer difficult to handle. I believe Benny's classes are rewarding for a lifetime, as they offer not only the essence of the English language, but also the proper attitude to learn and to improve.

Benny is my life-long idol for sure. He is the reason why I plucked up my confidence in English. Instead of teaching complicated yet useless vocabulary, he taught me practical elements of English, which are still paramountly useful in my writing now. Unlike other tutorial teachers out there, Benny has high expectations on my input and motivates me to do my best.

Benny has an exemplary teaching philosophy with a high commitment towards his students. His sunny disposition facilitates learning in classrooms by providing a range of authentic and skillful techniques. Then he steps back to encourage students to discover English and to take ownership of their learning. During lessons, he poses questions and dilemmas to examine whether students have mastered a particular topic and have developed the skills more effectively.

It has been six years since and there was not once I left his classroom with empty hands. Benny is a doctor of English; he knows exactly what your problems are, and is always ready to take you miles further. His passion and proficiency guarantee fulfilling learning experiences, and his notes are simply life-long treasures to me. He is a shepherd to the lost, a lighthouse to the advanced.
Benny is a teacher I adore, admire and highly respect. He keeps the key to the magical world of English. If you want to learn real English, learn from him. He never disappoints.

There is no denying that DSE is a tough battle. Frankly speaking, I do not have a flair for learning languages. Therefore, there is no room for complacency. Though Benny constantly raises the bar, I am still one of his loyal fans. I attended more than 300 lessons taught by him in my secondary school life. The key to getting straight 5** is certainly diligence and Benny's teaching!

Benny’s classes were challenging at times but I have learned much more practical English language skills from his lessons than any other class I have had. He held us to high standards and encouraged us to push beyond our limits. Benny’s high expectations in the classroom not only increased my English proficiency but have helped give me confidence in myself. His strictness is what makes him an effective teacher. Benny’s teaching has undoubtedly honed my reading, verbal and writing skills.

Benny is a strict and responsible English teacher. He treats every student seriously. We are required to memorise certain amounts of new words every week, which truly enriches our usage of vocabularies. The regular exercise given contributes lots to my English improvement.

Benny is a strict and responsible teacher. He ensures his students understand the usage of the vocabulary given, instead of giving out a list of synonyms of a word. During writing, he does not solely focus on the structure of the passage like what other teachers do. He takes time to check whether our arguments are logical. This strengthens our critical thinking skills, which is often overlooked by teachers in mainstream tutorial centres.

Thanks to him, I had a significant improvement during school exams. However, his lessons are way more than just achieving excellent results.
Benny’s lessons provide a chance for students to revel in the world of English, which is rarely seen among tutorial centres.

Without Benny’s lessons, I am sure that I would be nowhere close to achieving level 5* in English, 2021 HKDSE. Remember back when I was in junior secondary, which I had not yet met Benny, I struggled to get a pass in the English subject, with an average score of 50.
It all changed after joining Benny’s English tutorial since secondary 4. Benny’s challenging reading comprehensions taught us to read the questions carefully and avoid careless mistakes. Simultaneously, the “translation of phrases” and “paraphrasing” allows us to understand uncommon phrases to be used in writing. And the list goes on. All of the above added up as skill sets that gave me a huge leap from having an average score of 50 to 70, within only the first term of secondary 4.
Yet there is still no room for complacency. As we move on to secondary 5 and 6, the difficulties step up and Benny’s lessons continue to provide resources for us to cope with the challenges. Handouts such as “cohesive device”, “useful phrases in writing” gave us the ability to spice up our passages to a higher level, while reading comprehensions and “collocations” continue to inspire.
I would like to express my gratitude to Benny for accompanying me throughout the journey of preparing the HKDSE exam. Without Benny, I could never get the lengthy questions from paper1 right, nor completing paper3 on time, and would still be using basic sentences to construct my paper2 passages. Lots of thanks to Benny for transforming me from a student aiming 3 in English to achieving 5*, 5 and 5***in the three English papers!

Honourable mentions:
The extra class back in secondary 4 was really fun and rewarding, given us extra knowledge in English literature!
I had a great time practicing for speaking exam with Benny and the class, which allows me to cope with my nervousness and rising adrenaline while speaking. Despite having speaking exam cancelled, such exercises did help me with my interviews and I am sure that it will continue to be beneficial to me through out my life.

Unlike formalized English tutorials brimming with paper analysis and drilling, Benny’s lessons nurture students’ competence in English insensibly through unique lesson design. The lessons are intensive that not only words and explanations are provided, but also example sentences and highlights of their usage, such as the positive/negative meanings implied, the part of speech and the collocating words. Benny as well identifies words that appear confusing from students’ work, grouping and addressing them, preventing and clearing up students’ misconceptions. Attending Benny’s lessons would take one’s English beyond examinations.

Benny is not the typical kind of tutors you may have expected. Contrary to the examination-oriented teaching mode advocated by many tutors, Benny focuses more on learning English itself. Throughout years of learning, not only do I enrich my vocabularies and sentence structures, but also become conscious of grammatical issues. Consequently, my language proficiency is greatly improved by virtue of Benny's teaching. As of now, I am still a die-hard fan of Benny with the appreciation of his attitude towards teaching. Dedicating himself to teaching, Benny writes his own learning materials meticulously, thereby catering to the needs of students by not forcing them into memorizing something difficult and useless. With Benny's nourishment, guidance and nurture, the once flower seedling is now radiating beams of beauty.
